Mary, whose name we carry, is a role model for us of readiness to listen to the Word of God, to incorporate it into our lives and so to be available for the salvific work of God. We endeavour to follow her example, striving to imitate her virtues: openness and availability for the Will of God, humility and modesty, obedience of faith and selfless service in the work of salvation.

This characterization explains the orientation of the Carmelites on Mary, who influences us greatly even today. In Mary one can see how she can open herself completely to Christ and live with Him in everlasting fellowship. Like her they want to go into the silence before God and to be completely available and present for actual people.
